When Emerson started kindergarten at Moran Prairie, little did I know that I would become an involved Parent Teacher Group (PTG) mom. Three years ago I ended up volunteering to chair a committee that would put on a dinner and auction. The goal was simple: to raise some money to help fund the enrichment programs the PTG puts on to make the school experience even better for our children. The first year we raised around $17,000, last year it was around $23,000 and last night we cleared over $30,000 – WOW!
I’ve had the privilege of working with a core group of amazing women for these past three years. Their hard work and dedication has made our event grow and improve. I am so thankful for each and every one of them! Each year, the auction is something like having a baby. Excitement in the planning stages, then exhaustion and pain the final couple of weeks leading up to the event (like labor) then we give birth to a bouncing baby auction and it is beautiful! In the midst of the pain of getting the minute details put together, I’d have told you I will never work on this auction again. But, now that it is done, and we’ve made enough money to fund the entire program for the year, I am so proud and elated that I might just sign up for a fourth year. Give me another week or two and I am sure I will be all in!
I am also extremely thankful for the families of Moran Prairie. The generosity of the sponsors, donors and attendees was amazing. The live auction featured projects completed by the students – one per each classroom. One of the projects (a platter) was sold for $1,500! Truly amazing! I am thankful to be part of such an amazing elementary school.
